Cheong Fatt Tze’s Mansion

A Chinese businessman born in 1840, Cheong Fatt Tze built this ornate Blue Mansion to house his family. He recruited artisans from China and sourced stone from Scotland, and on its completion the building became the beating heart of Georgetown. It served as Cheong Fatt Tze’s base of operations and was a place where he could entertain guests, pray and trade with travellers from across the region. When you visit, make sure to look out for the intricate spiral staircase and Cantonese timber lattices, as well as English stained glass and Hokkien porcelain, all of which complement the basic elements of earth, air, fire and water in the impressive main hall.
